History of Vacheron Constantin
- Founded: 1755
- Founders: Jean-Marc Vacheron
- Acquired by Compagnie Financiere Richemont S.A.: 1996
Jean-Marc Vacheron founded the watch manufacture in Geneva in 1755. The company operated continuously through multiple generations of the Vacheron family and through various European political upheavals. Francis Constantin joined the company in 1819 and became a key figure in the brand's development, coining the motto "Faire mieux si possible, ce qui est toujours possible" (Do better if possible, which is always possible).
The company merged the Vacheron and Constantin family names into the brand's current form and grew through the 19th and 20th centuries as one of Geneva's most prestigious watchmakers. In 1996, Richemont acquired Vacheron Constantin and became its corporate owner.
Vacheron Constantin's Patrimony, Traditionnelle, and Overseas collections span from entry-level luxury to extraordinarily complex grand complications, some priced above $1 million.
